Business Education

Keyboarding  Credit:  ½
Grade Placement:  9-12
Prerequisite:  None
This course is designed to teach keyboarding skills for personal and career purposes.  An emphasis on proper technique, letter forms, communication skills, including proofreading, error correction, word division, making copy arrangement decisions, and producing usable copy under timed situations will be taught. 

Business Computer Information Systems 1  Credit:  1
Grade Placement:  10-12
Prerequisite:  Keyboarding   This is a cluster course which introduces basic concepts and skills related to microcomputer systems.  Special emphasis is placed on word processing, database design, electronic spreadsheet, and desktop publishing.  Students are provided with an overview of the various uses of information processing tools.  Included in H.C.C. Tech Prep Program.  (Course can count for one credit of Technology Applications.)

Business Computer Information Systems 2  Credit:  1
Grade Placement:  11-12
Prerequisite:  Keyboarding and BCIS 1
Students will learn advanced technology skills required in the business environment.  Topics addressed include workplace technology standards in application of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies. (Course can count for one credit of Technology Application.)

Business Image Management & Multimedia  Credit: 1
Grade Placement: 10-12
Prerequisite: Keyboarding credit or equivalent.
Students will use technology to develop professional oral and visual presentations using multimedia and publishing systems. Students will
learn presentation concepts and design concepts including color and effectiveness of layout to produce a product using a variety of hardware and software tools. This is an advanced technical credit course.

International Business Credit: ½
Grade Placement: 11 - 12
Students study concepts of the market economy and international trade by examining business operation in a worldwide market. Varying managerial practices are examined including the impact of varying cultures, international laws and governmental practices on business operation. The impact of international trade on domestic and world economies is explored. Business planning, organizational structure, finance, and world marketing
practices are studied.

Business Education Career Preparation 1  Credit:  3
Grade Placement:  11-12
Prerequisite:  Keyboarding, BCIS 1, application, and teacher approval; minimum age -16.
Note:  Students must find and maintain employment. Students will learn advanced technology skills required in the business environment.  Topics addressed include workplace technology standards in application of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies. The teacher may add the workplace competencies to the course content.

Business Education Career Preparation 2  Credit:  3
Grade Placement:  12
Prerequisite:  Business Education Career Preparation 1, application, and teacher approval; minimum age - 16.
Note:  Students must find and maintain employment. Students will learn advanced technology skills required in the business environment.  Topics addressed include workplace technology standards in application of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies.  The teacher may add the workplace competencies to the course content.

MARKETING EDUCATION

Entrepreneurship Credit: ½
Grade: 9-12
Prerequisite: none
This specialized one-semester course is for students who have a career interest in the transportation, accommodations, and/or recreation industry. The travel and tourism industry is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the state.

Retail Merchandising Credit: ½
Grade Placement: 10-12
Prerequisite: none
Retailing is an exploratory course of marketing activities performed by businesses that sell goods and services to consumers. Students will examine management and operational aspects of a retail business.

Marketing Education Career Preparation 1  Credit:  3
Grade Placement:  11-12
Prerequisite:  Application and administrative review, minimum age - 16
Note:  Students must find and maintain employment.Students work in sales, services and marketing jobs.  Related classrooms instruction includes basic concepts and skills for marketing careers with emphasis on marketing functions, human relations and personality development, business policies, display, business calculations, management principles, control, merchandising and selling.

Marketing Education Career Preparation 2  Credit:  3
Grade Placement:  12
Prerequisite:  Marketing Education Career Preparation 1, application, and administrative review approval, minimum age -16
Note:  Students must find and maintain employment.Students work in sales, services and marketing jobs.  elated classroom instruction includes basic concepts and skills for marketing careers with emphasis on marketing functions, human relations and personality development, business policies, display, business calculations, management principles, control, merchandising and selling.
