Course Syllabus 

Subject: Spanish IV                                                                               Instructor: Ms. Berryman


 

 

 

OVERVIEW:  In this year-long course, students will practice their Spanish language skills in the areas of listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, while increasing their knowledge of Spanish vocabulary.  Students will expand their previous knowledge about Spanish-speaking cultures and subcultures within and outside of the United States and the literature, art, and customs derived from those cultures.  Students will practice comparing and contrasting the English language and culture of the United States to the above-mentioned cultures studied as well as to make connections with other subject areas. 

 

Content themes that will be covered include:

**One major project/presentation will be required in the 4th or 5th six weeks period.**

 

GOALS for students:

  1. Make use of extensive grammar skills when listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  2. Possess an overview understanding of literature, art, and customs of the Spanish-speaking world.

Standard HISD grading scale:

Six weeks grade is calculated as follows:

100-90

Oral Tests (individual/group presentations or projects)

CLASSROOM RULES:

Students, in addition to abiding by district and school codes of conduct, must obey the following classroom rules:

 

  1. DESTROY NOTHING.
  2. KEEP YOURSELF AND YOUR BELONGINGS IN YOUR OWN SPACE.
  3. ATTEND TO THE TASK ASSIGNED.
  4. WAIT YOUR TURN TO TALK.
  5. KEEP ALL EATING, DRINKING, OR CHEWING OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM.

 

SUPPLIES:

- One 1-3 inch binder with pockets and dividers labeled Diario (Journal), Apuntas (Notes), Vocabulario (Vocabulary), Tarea (Homework), Pruebas/Pruebitas (Tests/Quizzes)

- Notebook paper

- Black and red pens/Pencils

- Pencil bag within binder (optional)

- 3 x 5 note cards (optional for vocabulary)

ATTENDANCE:

Students are expected to be present in class daily.  When absent, students have THREE (3) days in which to bring a permit to excuse the absence.  If not excused within that time period, the absence will be considered UNEXCUSED.  THREE (3) UNEXCUSED ABSENCES RESULT IN NO CREDIT FOR THE CLASS.

 

TARDINESS:

If tardy, students are required to bring a permit from the office stating if the tardy is EXCUSED or UNEXCUSED and check with the teacher for any missed work or instructions.

 

Above regulations and policies are subject to change at the discretion of the teacher.
