Sara Wilson, Director

Mrs. Wilson has been in the dance world for over 20 years.  She has had extensive training in tap, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical, hip hop, kick, military, and pom.  Originally from Plano, TX she spent her days on a studio’s competitive team, and won numerous awards.  In high school she was on the drill team for one year, and then joined the dance team, Plano Dance Force, for her final 2 years of high school.  During her two years on Plano Dance Force, the team won back to back national championship titles.  Also while on Plano Dance Force, she received many individual honors including American Drill Team School solo winner and scholarship recipient, All-American Drill Team, All-American Dance Company, and numerous others.

She was then accepted to the Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance program at the University of Texas, where she was a 2 year member and soloist for the university’s modern dance company, Dance Repertory Theater.  Also during her time at UT, she had the privilege of being chosen to perform with the internationally-touring David Rousseve Company and also was awarded the American Ballet Theater summer intensive work/study scholarship.  Mrs. Wilson loves anything and everything about dance.  It was this love of dance that motivated her to work hard to be named to the College of Fine Arts Dean’s List for numerous semesters.

In 2003, Mrs. Wilson was added to the American Drill Team School instructional and adjudication staff which has taken her all over the state, and even other states to share her knowledge and love of the art of dance. She has the honor of teaching, judging, and choreographing for teams all over the country.  She was invited to judge the state championships in Oregon, in addition to judging American’s national competition for numerous years.

Mrs. Wilson has taught at various studios throughout the Dallas and Austin areas.  She was also the Junior Varsity Dance Team director at Akins High School in Austin, TX.  While she was the JV Director, she led her dancers to win the title of State Champion in the JV Military category in addition to countless other awards. In Dallas, she was asked to choreograph for the North Texas Youth Ballet’s “Nutcracker”.  In addition to teaching after college, Mrs. Wilson was a cheerleader for the semi-pro football team, the Texas Heat, danced with a company in Dallas formerly known as Inertia, and was a member of Houston’s Dance Force Productions.  Her greatest achievement is recently welcoming her son, Austin, to the world.

Here at Lamar, Mrs. Wilson has turned the team back into a competition squad.  Within the past two competition seasons, the Rangerettes have had numerous solo finalists, judges awards, sweepstakes awards, best in class, and the list goes on.  The Rangerette competition squad has consistently earned high marks in presentation, choreography, and technique.

Mrs. Wilson has an enormous love for dance, and her greatest passion is to share that love with others.  She believes that with hard work and determination, anything can be achieved.  Her goal for each Rangerette is to grow not only as a dancer, but also as a person.  She demands a lot from her dancers, yet remains positive and encouraging.  Through dance confidence, discipline, perseverance, and respect for self and others is taught.

“Work like you don’t need money, love like you’ve never been hurt, and dance like no one’s watching. “
“There are 3 D’s in life:  Desire, Determination, and Dedication.  You need all 3 to go somewhere. . .but it all starts with the 4th D, Dream.”  -Author Unknown
