Standard Dress Code Items

All students are expected to be in full compliance beginning the first day of school.

Short or long sleeves: must be tucked in at waist or be long enough to cover the midriff when arms are raised above head.

Lower hem of shirts worn out must not extend more than 9” below natural waist of Docker-style pants.

Oxford shirts must be tucked in at waist.

No cap sleeves.

Visible T-shirts MUST be of approved school colors.

The above Standard Dress Code Policy is subject to annual review.
Violations to this dress code are subject to disciplinary action.
Recurrent and inappropriate dress during "dress up" days will result in cancellation of "dress up" days
All teachers are expected to enforce dress code policy with all students at all times.

Special Considerations

1. Purchase Options: Parents and students may determine where and from whom they will purchase their clothing. Retail stores and a list of participating vendors are included below.

2. Notification: In addition to this correspondence, all standard dress code information will be disseminated through the TimeTracker, Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and the DeBakey HSHP Website.

3. Display: HSHP will display a copy of the standard dress code policy in all classrooms and in the library for parents and students to view.

The Non-Standard Dress Code Policy

The following will not be allowed (even on the "special dress-up" days):

Baggies  Over-sized shirts  Sandals/open toe shoes 
Non-regulation shorts  Tank tops/muscle shirts  Floppie sandals, mules, etc. 
Skorts  Midriff tops  Hats/caps 
Jeans with holes  T-shirts with obscene language or graphics  Sunglasses 
Dressing Up is Encouraged!

Non-Compliance Dress Code Consequences

First Offense
Parent will be contacted to bring appropriate clothing. The student will be held in detention for the remainder of the day. If appropriate clothing is brought, the student will be allowed to change and report to class.

Second Offense
The student will be held in detention for the day, will be assigned one hour after-school detention, will receive an "office P" in conduct for the six weeks and will be placed on probation for the remainder of the semester.

Third Offense
The student will be held in detention for the day, will be assigned two hours of after-school detention, will be given a "office U" in conduct, and an exit conference will be held.
