Admissions Information for the
2008-2009 School Year

Students apply for admission to the DeBakey HSHP and are selected based upon academic performance, standardized test scores, admissions test scores, conduct, attendance, and an essay. For information, please contact:

Information for Incoming 9th Graders 2008

Eligibility

Applications will be available from the Houston ISD Magnet Department the week of November 4, 2007

ALL students must submit an application for admission postmarked by January 11, 2008.
[Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.] 

The Magnet Office at DeBakey HSHP will begin accepting applications on November 12, 2007. 

Following the submission of the Magnet Application to DeBakey HSHP,
the parent(s) must call the magnet office (at 713-746-5205) to schedule an admission test date.


Admissions Test Requirements for interested 8th graders

The following documents must be submitted with the application before reserving space to take the admissions test: 
  1. Previous Year's Final Report Card(7th grade)
  2. Most Current Report Card (8th grade)
  3. Permanent Record (6th and 7th grade only)
  4. Test Records (6th and 7th grade only)
  5. Current Immunization Record
  6. Proof of HISD residency (apartment rent receipt, utility bill, or affidavit of residence)
  7. For children of HISD employees, a valid HISD employee ID and work location.department
Admission Test Dates 
  • Saturday, November 17, 2007 
  • Saturday, December 1, 2007
  • Saturday, January 12, 2008
  • Saturday, January 26, 2008
  • Saturday, February 9, 2008 
  • Saturday, February 23, 2008

Items the applicant should Bring to the Test Site

  • Two #2 pencils
  • A copy of applicant's current report card
  • a copy of applicant's Social Security Card
  • a copy of applicant's Photo ID

 

Information for Test Day

Session A

  • Registration begins at 7:15 a.m.
  • The Admission test will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.
  • Students are to be picked up at 9:45 a.m.

Session B

  • Registration begins at 9:15 a.m.
  • The Admission test will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
  • Students are to be picked up at 11:45 a.m.

On February 9 we will have an additional testing session
Session C

  • Registration begins at 11:15 a.m.
  • The Admission test will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m.
  • Students are to be picked up at 1:45 p.m.

Parent Notification

Parents and students will be notified by mail of the student's application status March 28, 2008 (postmarked).
 

Parent Response Deadline

The parent must notify the magnet school of choice of student's "intent to attend" by April 11, 2008 (postmarked).
