Program Benefits
Every member of the Academic Achievers Program is provided with all of the following services throughout their three year membership:
- Daily Tutoring Sessions
- Mentoring by college students and program coordinator
- Workshops
- Field Trips
- Leadership Development Retreats
- Summer Sessions which include PSAT/SAT prep classes
- Those who graduate in good standing with the program, and go on to enroll at the University of Houston, will receive automatic admission into the U of H Academic Achievers program and will be eligible for a $10,00 scholarship!

Academic Acheivers

The Academic Achievers Program at Austin High School has existed since 1988.  First known as the “Hispanic Family College Project” and later as the “SABE- Students Aspiring to a Better Education- Program”, this program focuses on helping students achieve excellent academic standing, high school graduation, and college enrollment. 


Do You Have What it Takes?
The Academic Achievers Program accepts approximately 30 freshman applicants once every three years. Those freshmen accepted to the program will be mentored and receive special one-on-one support throughout the remainder of their academic career at Austin High School. Eligibility for the Academic Achievers program is based on the following criteria:
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Strong college aspirations
  • Leadership skills
  • Financial need
  • Commitment to the Academic Achievers program and guidelines
In order to remain in the program, all members are required to:
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Enroll in college preparatory classes
  • Complete at least 3 hours supervised study and/or tutoring per week
  • Attend program sponsored meetings, workshops, community service events, leadership development retreats, and summer sessions

The Academic Achievers Program will accept it's next class of freshmen during the 2007-2008 school year
