At Austin High School we strive to ensure that every student is given the opportunity to receive a first class education. We recognize, however, that in some cases there are circumstances hindering students from taking full advantage of this opportunity. To address those circumstance, there are several extra assistance programs available to Austin students and parents.
CIS provides supportive guidance and counseling, health and human services, parental involvement, enrichment activities, educational enhancement and pre-employment/employment services.
The mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) Houston, Inc. is to provide and to coordinate student assistance services at the school campus in order to best meet the physical and emotional needs of at-risk students and to empower these students to remain in school.
CIS Offers:
Career awareness to help students explore options for the future
Referrals to social services providers to help students and their family
Tutoring and mentoring
Support groups that allow students to talk about their own personal problems with others their age
Stephen F. Austin High School has a school-wide Title I program. Title I is a federally funded program with the intent to improve the academic achievement of students who are economically disadvantaged. The purpose of Title I, Part A is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title I funds enable Austin High School to employ and train highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals, purchase instructional materials and classroom computers, and sponsor parental
involvement activities. To increase student academic achievement, Title I funds supplement the following programs offered at Austin High School:

• Summer School
• Field Trips
• Uniform Vouchers
• Computer Enrichment for Parents
