Welcome to the Home of the Phoenix!

On the Move!

Classes will resume on Tues. Sept. 23rd, 2008. Welcome Back Students!

HISD’S first Ninth Grade College Preparatory Academy (NGCPA) has over 800 freshmen embarking on a new journey. Every faculty and staff member has been hand picked because of their commitment and dedication to the campus’ core values: to challenge, educate, and nurture students.

Students are grouped into clusters, have unique college-spirit uniforms, participate in cluster service projects, and visit local college campuses.  This is such an exciting time for everyone involved, especially the students.  The faculty and staff have cultivated a college-bound culture with customized trainings and in-services to help meet the needs of their students.

Chancellor Trevino will promote the college-bound campus identity for every member of the NGCPA Family. Expectations are high, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure student success.  Ladies and gentlemen, the Phoenix is rising!

The NGCPA is one of two new schools created in 2008 by HISD during a mandatory restructuring of the school formerly known as Sam Houston High School, which closed after being ranked “Academically Unacceptable” by the Texas Education Agency for six consecutive years.

The NGCPA offers freshmen intensive instruction in the areas of math, science, and technology, along with the chance to take dual-credit and Advanced Placement courses to earn college credit while still in high school. Students needing extra math assistance will get 90 minutes of supplemental instruction every day. Other features of the new school include a longer school day for students, college and career programs, and teen leadership classes focusing on character development.

For the first two years the NGCPA is open, it will have no official attendance boundaries and no student will be enrolled automatically; therefore, any student who wishes to attend must submit a registration form.
